Pigment Yellow 65 (PY65) is a high-performance organic pigment belonging to the monoazo class.
Pigment Yellow 65 is renowned for its vibrant reddish-yellow hue, excellent lightfastness, and chemical stability, making it suitable for various industrial applications.

Pigment Yellow 65 provides a reddish yellow shade.
The types which are still commercially available consist of pigments with comparatively coarse particle sizes and with specific surface areas of approximately 6 to 20 m2/g.

Pigment Yellow 65 thus provides excellent hiding power.
There is some resemblance between Pigment Yellow 65 and Pigment Yellow 74 types with high hiding power in that they perform equally well in terms of solvent resistance, recrystallization fastness in solvent containing media, lightfastness, and durability.

Tinctorially, however, Pigment Yellow 65 is considerably inferior, which precludes its application in printing inks.
Opaque varieties of the slightly more greenish diarylide yellow pigment P.Y.83, for instance, are more than three times as strong as Pigment Yellow 65, yet provide similar lightfastness.

Media in which Pigment Yellow 65 grades are applied include air drying and emulsion paints.
Combinations of the positional isomers Pigment Yellow 65 and 74 are also commercially available.
Pigment Yellow 65 is a bright, reddish PY 65 type having very good weather fastness and high opacity in application.

Pigment Yellow 65 is primarily used in solvent-based yellow traffic paints (Cowles Blade dispersible) and tapes.
Pigments of this chemistry demonstrate good rheological properties but fastness to overpainting and all non-aliphatic solvents is poor.
In addition, they bloom heavily in baking systems and have relatively poor heat stability.

To note is that often exhibit poor crystal stability in the presence of organic solvents, indicated by a distinct red shade shift, loss of brightness and strength reduction.
This phenomenon is often accelerated by elevated (above 40°C/104°F) processing temperatures.

PRODUCTION METHODS OF PIGMENT YELLOW 65:
reaction equation operation procedure: weigh 10.3g of color base GP, grind into fine powder, add it to 100ml beaker, 13.0 of 36% hydrochloric acid and 30.0g of crushed ice were added thereto, and the mixture was stirred.
Weigh 3g of sodium nitrite into 40ml of solution, then add 30.0g of crushed ice and stir.

Weigh 4.3g of sodium nitrite into 40ml of solution, and then add to the color base GP suspension cooled to 0 ℃, and ensure that the excess solution of sodium nitrite is strongly acidic, carry out diazotization reaction, after adding the sodium nitrite solution, the reaction was continued at a temperature of 0 to 5 ° C.

For 1H.
After completion of the diazotization, the excess nitrous acid was destroyed with urea;
The activated carbon was decolorized, filtered, and prepared for coupling.

Weigh 12.5g of O-methoxyacetanilide, add 160ml of water to slurry, add 30% NaOH solution to dissolve it, and then adjust the pH value to 6.5~7 with glacial acetic acid to precipitate O-methoxyacetanilide, 20.0G of crystalline sodium acetate was added to the slurry and stirred.

The prepared diazonium salt solution was added to the suspension of coupling components at 10-15 °c for about 20min, and the end point was controlled by the ring permeation experiment.

After completion of the reaction, the pigment was obtained by filtering, washing with distilled water until the pH value of the filter cake was about 7.0 and drying at 80 °c.
